One of the Westside's best-kept secrets is Quetzal Imports, located in the heart of the Guadalupe Neighborhood at 580 West 500 North. This bodega-style neighborhood market specializes in Guatemalan cuisine and offers more than just delicious food – it’s also a convenient spot for picking up household items, snacks, and more without having to leave the neighborhood.

As soon as you walk in, you're greeted by the mouthwatering aroma of garlic and spices. The menu is packed with a variety of South American dishes – from tamales to tacos – but the real star of the show is the pupusa. For less than $10, you can enjoy two pupusas served with tangy slaw and a flavorful tomato salsa that’s simply irresistible; pair it with a cold soda, and you’re all set.

For those unfamiliar with pupusas, they are thick, griddle-cooked flatbreads filled with cheese, meat, or vegetables. At Quetzal, you can choose between cheese or pork. Pupusas are similar to arepas, another popular South American dish.

Be prepared – since the pupusas are made fresh-to-order, they come out piping hot. Whether you're stopping by for lunch or dinner, Quetzal Imports is a must-visit spot on the Westside. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed. I’d easily rate it 10 out of 10!
