Grant program launches to help Westside non-profit organizations

A representative of the Larry H. & Gail Miller Family Foundation announces the launch of the Westside Community Grant at Mestizo Coffeehouse in Salt Lake City on October 9, 2024.

Non-profit organizations working on Salt Lake City’s Westside have an additional opportunity for funding thanks to a new grant from the Larry H. & Gail Miller Family Foundation.

The Westside Community Grant launched during an event held at Mestizo Coffeehouse on October 9th. The grant is designed to “build capacity and provide resources” for groups and organizations who offer support to Westside communities. The initial investment of $500,000 will be available to 501(c)(3) organizations that align with the foundation’s main platforms:

  • Health and medicine

  • Shelter and food security

  • Education and skill development

  • Jobs and economic self-reliance

  • Cultural and spiritual enrichment

“Salt Lake City’s Westside holds a special place in the hearts of the Miller family and the Larry H. & Gail Miller Family Foundation,” said Don Stirling, executive director of the Miller Family Foundation, in a press release. “We are grateful to work closely with community leaders, neighbors and key stakeholders and aim to be a catalyst for sustainable opportunities, ensuring that the Westside continues to flourish as a vibrant and inclusive part of Salt Lake City.”

In the pilot phase of the new community grant, the Larry H. & Gail Miller Family Foundation has committed funds to four local non-profit groups, including NeighborWorks, University Neighborhood Partners, Comunidad Materna, and the Pacific Heritage Academy. The Miller Family Foundation has also contributed more than $3 million in 2024 to several other organizations working on the Westside.
